چکیده

Introduction: Moderate hypoxia has been implicated in the development of delirium. One mechanism may be an increase of Dopamine (DA) and Serotonin (5-HT) levels. Our previous studies indicated that hypoxia increased levels of both neurotransmitters (NT) and that nimodipine (NIMO) administered immediately after hypoxia preserved short term memory. We tested the hypothesis that these observations may be related to a NIMO dependent reduction of hypoxia in-

EFFECTS OF CATECHOLAMINES ON DOPAMINE AND SEROTONIN SYNTHESIS IN RAT BRAIN STRIATAL SYNAPTOSOMES: THE ROLE OF PRESYNAPTIC RECEPTORS AND THE SYNAPTOSOMAL REUPTAKE MECHANISM.

The regulation of dopamine and serotonin synthesis in rat brain striatal synaptosomes has been studied using HPLC methods. Noradrenaline was shown to markedly inhibit both the synthesis of dopamine and serotonin. The response of the synaptosomes to the concentrations of noradrenaline appeared to be biphasic, a very effective inhibition occurring at low concentrations (1-5 µm) and a relativ...

Transient hypoxia alters striatal catecholamine metabolism in immature brain: an in vivo microdialysis study.

Microdialysis probes were inserted bilaterally into the striatum of 7-day-old rat pups (n = 30) to examine extracellular fluid levels of dopamine, its metabolites 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC) and homovanillic acid (HVA), and the serotonin metabolite 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA). The dialysis samples were assayed by HPLC with electrochemical detection. Baseline levels, measured ...

Differential effects of psychostimulants and related agents on dopaminergic and serotonergic transporter function.

High-dose administrations of amphetamine, methamphetamine, cathinone, methcathinone or methylenedioxymethamphetamine rapidly decrease dopamine and serotonin transporter function in vivo, as assessed in striatal synaptosomes obtained from drug-treated rats. In contrast, high-dose injections of fenfluramine, cocaine or methylphenidate had little or no effect on the activity of these transporters....

Role of natural products in mitigation of toxic effects of methamphetamine: A review of in vitro and in vivo studies

Objective: Methamphetamine (METH) increases dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin concentrations in the synaptic cleft, and induces hyperactivity. The current management of acute METH poisoning relies on supportive care and no specific antidote is available for treatment. The main objective of this review was to present the evidence for effectiveness of the herbal medicine in ...

Influence of acute progressive hypoxia on cardiovascular variability in conscious spontaneously hypertensive rats

The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of acute progressive hypoxia on cardiovascular variability and striatal dopamine (DA) levels in conscious, spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) and Wistar Kyoto rats (WKY). After preparation for measurement, the inspired oxygen concentration of rats was decreased to 10% within 5 min (descent stage), maintained at 10% for 10 min (fixed stage...
